Productive Interaction with Krishna Prasad Tenneti A productive interaction with Krishna Prasad Tenneti, former Director General of Police, Telangana, and Member of Parliament representing the Bapatla Constituency, Andhra Pradesh, who also serves on the Panel of Chairpersons of the Lok Sabha. The meeting focused on exploring the piloting of an Early Cancer Screening Programme in Bapatla, modelled on the community based screening initiatives currently being implemented in Odisha. The discussion was followed by an extensive deliberation with Madam Tenneti on developing an effective implementation framework suited to local public health needs. We look forward to working closely with the KP Foundation, the Government of Andhra Pradesh, and the Bapatla district administration to design a robust strategy aimed at strengthening early detection and improving cancer outcomes at the community level. A significant milestone in Odisha’s journey towards strengthening early cancer detection. On 08 June 2026, a review and rollout meeting was conducted at CHC Ghasipura, marking the second block level implementation following the successful initiation in Jhumpura Block, Keonjhar. The meeting brought together ASHAs, CHOs, ANMs, and other key stakeholders who will play a pivotal role in advancing community based cancer screening and improving the quality of Community Based Assessment Checklist (CBAC) data collection. The discussions focused on strengthening field level implementation, enhancing the accuracy of risk assessment, and ensuring timely identification and referral of individuals at risk. Through collective commitment and capacity building, this initiative aims to bring early detection closer to communities and improve cancer outcomes across Odisha.Early detection saves lives. Launch of Early Cancer Screening Initiative in Bolangir District Odisha We successfully rolled out the Early Cancer Screening Initiative, at Ghasian Community Health Centre (CHC), situated in Patnagarh block, Bolangir district of Odisha, on the 8th of June 2026. As part of our visit the 2HT team, had a very fruitful discussion with the District Magistrate and Collector Bolangir, Shri Gaurav Shivaji Isalwar, IAS, Dr. Pushpanjali Mishra, the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Bolangir, and Shri Rajeshwar Rao Patnaik, District Program Manager (DPM), NHM Bolangir. The meeting focused on reviewing the outputs and outcomes of the program, operational planning, implementation timelines, capacity building, and long term strategies, to strengthen community based cancer screening, early detection of cancer and other Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), and a fast track referral, diagnosis and treatment process. The deliberations reinforced a shared commitment towards establishing a sustainable model, for early cancer detection, ensuring timely identification, referral, and management of individuals at risk, while strengthening public health systems at the grassroots level.We are delighted with the support we received from the district authorities and look forward to working closely in gradually scaling up the program, to all the 14 blocks of the district. The pilot will cover a population of around 25000 people, under 5 sub-centres, of Ghasian Primary Health Centre (PHC). Support the Mission
